IBM Shark unit and ARPA/SNAP packet type.

Hi all. I wonder if anyone has any experience of the following they could perhaps relay to me.

We have 3 IBM Shark units on site, each with two Clusters and each of those with its own I.P. address. Recently, we have been receiving only intermittent transmission from one cluster of a particular machine, and it has been dropping a few pings now and then when we've been having a look at it. We would expect both clusters in this machine to show ARPA packets, but this one problem cluster is showing SNAP, and in conjunction with this is showing as an invalid CEF adjacency.

I am wondering if the Ethernet packet type is a configurable option from within the machine itself but am only guessing.

Can anybody advise as to what I should be looking at?

We had a problem like this and had to put a static ARP entry of the problem unit and specify the address, mac address , arpa . Try this to see if it helps your problem .

Hi Glen. This does indeed work thanks, but we're thinking we might not have fixed the problem at source. We are currently in the process of trying to find out from IBM if packet type is a configurable parameter within the Shark unit itself. Hopefully it is and we can just change it, leaving things as they are ARP-wise.
