hi,
i have a lan, and no vlans created.
when assigning the interface vlan 1 an IP address, should it be in the same ip subnet as the lan hosts?

Hi Shadow,
As you say no vlans created which means cisco switches have default vlan 1 so your all ports are in vlan 1.
So your hosts are now a part of vlan 1 and if they are a part of vlan 1 which means the vlan 1 interface ip address should be in same subnet.
But ofcourse if you have different vlans configured on your switch hosts connected to those vlans should have a different subnet.
