IOS upgrade; memory req

I want to upgrade a 3640 router from 12.1 to 12.2. When an IOS requires 16mb flash, does it matter if that 16MB is from on-board flash or from PCMCIA card?

Doesn't the IOS gets road into memory when it boots up?

You can meet flash requirements with either external PCMCIA flash cards or internal flash.
