IP disconnect between 1 enduser device and 1 server only

We have occasionally seen a user's PC (Connected to a Cat 6500 running CATOS) that has a solid connection to a database server (Connected to a Cat 6500 running CATOS) suddenly drop and then be unable to reconnect.

Ping tests show that the PC is unable to reach the server and a tracert shows the path dying on the MSFC that services the server VLAN.

The same test from the server show that the PC can be reached.

Other devices in the users IP subnet can reach the server without a problem.

The user's PC can also reach other servers in the subnet that the target server exists.

Connectivity path is:

PC-->Cat-6500 (L2 only) --> Cat 6500 w/MSFC --> Cat 6500 w/MSFC --> Server

Speed, duplex and cables have all been checked.

A data capture is being run to gather packet info.

Any ideas on how to procede?

Thanks!

Hello,

you could install the PingPlotter utility on the PC that drops the connection, it shows you if a route changes or if the network connection gets slow. Download the freeware version at:
