I have recently taken over managing a 2501 router going through a Nokia IP330 firewall and noticed that the ethernet ip address is an "external" address and the serial 0 interface has the command "ip unnumbered eth0".

What does this mean ?

Please help - confused...

I went to cisco.com and typed "ip unnumbered" in the search window and this was the first hit:

Basically it means S0 borrows the ip address of E0. Usually found on small networks, or where ip addresses need to be conserved.
