I am in the process of planning a large network which will need both POTS dial-out and dial-in capabilities over modems. In looking at Cisco's IOS software, dial-out can be configured. My question is, can dial-outs with modems be used on the large AS type routers. The data sheets seem to say no. Can anyone shed light on this?

The large scale platforms (5XX0) have internal modems that can be used for dialout; no problem (dialin too, obviously). They dialing would be done via a T1/E1/T3 interface that is configured for either ISDN or CAS signalling.
Here is one page that may help:

Thanks for the response.
I cannot get the link that you specified, (access issues), and I have read other streams on the subject. Is there any online documentation/page that you can recomemend which would be as useful as the link you specified?
Thanks

You can try this:

I'm not really sure what links are public, and which require a login...
