Hi all,

I'm using gigabit 1000Base-LX/LH to link a 4507 to some 2950 and i found that when i launch a show interfaces gigaX/X on the 4507 it tells "media type is LH", but when i launch the same command in the 2950 they say "media type is LX".

They both are using exactly the same WS-G5486 connectors, then why is different the media type?, and what does that mind?.

Thanks, Luisl

Hi,

it's still one GBIC: WS-G5486, 1000BaseLX/LH.

(it's identified as "1000-LX/LH" on Cat4000, 6000).

"fully complies with the IEEE 802.3z 1000BASE-LX standard. However, its higher optical quality allows it to reach 6.2 miles (10 kilometers) over single-mode fiber (SMF), compared with the 3.1 miles (5 km) specified in the standard."

See http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/cc/pd/si/casi/ca3550/prodlit/gbicd_ds.pdf

for details.

Regards,

Milan
