Hi,
What does a switch backplane really means? eg 64Gbps, meaning it can handle 64Gbps of traffic?

hi there....
i guess ure right the backplane e.g64Gpbs is a measure of the capacity that the switch can handle (gauranteed by Cisco i think) without havin to drop packets across its internal bus..... through which all traffic from the utp port transverse...

Backplan emeans it is databus capasity to process traffic which is passing from your nrtwork device.
backplane capacity decides the Switch/router data processing performance. Suppose for 24 port switch considering each port working on 100MBps, data transfer rate is very high which should support speed at backend. So 64Gbps backplane means it support transfer rate of 64Gbps/second.
