Minimizing running processes on routers/switches

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has done this kind of work already. What I am looking for is how to remove common unwanted processes on say routers mostly. The reason...To be more secure, save memory, etc...Examples like: http, finger, and most recently what prompted me to ask this question DHCPD. I have executed no service dhcp but a couple of processes are still running. If someone has a pointer to this info then please send it along.

Thanks,

Hi!

You have to start checking all your feature that you want to run and then turn everything else off.

One good way is to follow the security guidelines lurking around @cisco.com and @nsa.gov. This way you doing two fold good things for security and the routers resorces.
