Hello,
we have a Cat 5509 with Sup3 and NFFCII.
The directly connected router is a 7206VXR.
The Cat 5509 has several 2924XL-EN as Access-
switches.
We are running ip multicast-routing with
pim sparse-dense-mode on the router.
The switches are configured with CGMP.
The client-PC's are connected on the
2924XL, whereas the Multicastsender is
connected on the Cat 5509.
We tried to configure MMLS (Multicast
Multilayer Switching) and we ran into
problems.
The multicast stream stops after several
(maybe 3) minutes. On the Cat 5509 the
concerning entry in the "sh mls mul ent"
output was gone.
Used software:
Router: 12.2(7c)
Cat 5509 6.3.5
Cat 2924XL-EN: 12.0.5WC5a
Has anyone out there similar experiences?
Any answer welcome.
Best regards, Snitram

This is assuming you are shunting Mcast to different VLANS an trunks or uplinks are configured correctly.:)
The reason why your source stops is that the *.G entry is being flooded by dense mode.
I would say move to IGMP on the Cat5 but you have the 2900's.
Make sure your router interface is also configured for CGMP, use the sh ip igmp interface.
This example:
IGMP is enabled on interface
Current IGMP host version is 2
Current IGMP router version is 2
CGMP is enabled on interface
You can see CGMP is enabled.
Also with regards to MMLS have you configured the switch and router to do this.?? If not this will help.
You can also configure the switch with a multicast router port which IGMP/CGMP joins and queries will be sent and recieved respectively.
Adios

Hi,
thank you. I think that everything is configured correctly.
What about igmp snooping? From my understanding it should
be possible to use on the 550x igmp snooping and cgmp on
the 2924XL. The 550x should pass the cgmp-Packets to the
2924XL.
Any ideas?
