Hi,
I wonder if some one could clarify if MST uses VLAN 1 for exchanging BPDU'S or does it uses that particular vlan that is configured under native VLAN for the interface.
Thank you,
Venkatesh

To ensure consistent VLAN-instance mapping, the protocol has to identify the boundaries of the regions. Therefore, the region's characteristics are included in BPDUs. The switches need to know whether they are in the same region as a neighbor, hence a digest of the VLAN-instance mapping table is sent along with the revision number and the name. After a switch receives a BPDU, it extracts the digest and compares it with its own computed digest. To avoid a spanning tree loop, if two switches disagree on any of the parameters received within the BPDU, the port on which the BPDU was received is declared a boundary port

Hi,
Thanks for your mail, the thing you have explained is the operation of MST but I would like to know is, whether the BPDU that are being exchnaged between the neighbors in a MST takes place over the native vlan or vlan 1 like PVST+.
