Multicast stream crashes after short time

Hello,

we are trying to stream some video between two Crestron-Devices, one transmitter (10.43.1.66) and one receiver (10.43.1.90). I configured multicast routing via Pim sparse mode with a rendezvous point.

After about 2 minutes the stream stops. If you shut/no shut the switchport where the transmitter is connected the stream is starting again (for 2 min).

I attach a short scheme about the installation and two pictures which show a Wireshark recording of the switchport where the transmitter is. Seems that the transmitter don't answer to the membership query of router 2, or?

 

I tried to disable IGMP snooping on Switch 133, but it didn't help.

 

The rendezvouz point is configured on all routers.

On every SVI we configured: 

 ip pim sparse-dense-mode

 ip igmp last-member-query-interval 1000
 ip igmp query-interval 60

 

Can anybody help?!

Hi,

  • Do you have pim configured on all l3 interface along the path i.e. all interfaces on R2 and R4 on multicast path?
  • Do you have RP configure on both R2 and R4 i.e. ip pim rp-address 10.43.1.65
  • What is the output of "show ip igmp snooping groups" on both switches
  • What is the multicast routing table on R2?

Yes, PIM is configured on all L3-Interfaces (SVIs) on the path and accordingly in the whole vrf.

Yes, RP is configured on all routers.

Are switches 29 and 33 management switches? Can you  see igmp groups on these switches.  Since the client is sending a leave, this could  indicate  a client issue. You can also test with a different client like  vlc. If you know the group and udp port  the transmitter is using, you can connect to the stream and see if it dies after a few minutes.

I'm not sure what you mean with management switches. Switches 29 and 133 are normal access layer switches with the two connected Crestron-devices.

 

On switch 133 I can see groups:

Great idea to have a test with a different client. Unfortunately I don't get the stream on my laptop, testet with VLC and Quicktime. Both say "Encryption failed", but on the transmitter there is encryption disabled.
For testing I used the link, which is configured in the receiver: rtsp://10.43.1.66:554/live.sdp
I also tried a lot of other combinations, with multicast address, with username/password. Nothing worked. :-(   

Connected the support of Crestron yesterday, but until now there is no answer. Unfortunately the devices are a only lent for testing and testing time expires next week.

I did a test with two laptops and VLC Player. But it did not work. Logging seems to be ok and VLC says its successfully connected to the Stream, but there is no picture. But if the laptops are in the same subnet... it's working.

Ahhhh... thank you so much. I read about the ttl sometimes in older tutorials. But during the set-up dialog of the vlc stream there was no ttl setting. So I had a look at it and it was set to 1. I changed it to 5 and now the stream via VLC from one laptop to another is working fine without any interruption!!
So it's clear that the problem with the stream of the crestron devices has to be a client problem.

Can you say something to the following logging output? Testet with the crestron devices. Stream startet at 10:47:04 and crashes at 10:49:57. The output is from switch 133 where the receiving-device is located:

 I think you should look at the specific application. Could be it requires specific multicast configuration or could be some settings that need changing.
