Thank you for sharing your experience. And +5 for a helpful screenshot showing what was done.

Thanks a lot.

I tried to use your proposition about reducing the console connection speed to 300, carefully going ahead step by step, but to no avail, unfortunately. Perhaps it does not work for any router model of Cisco?

Try the same as Rick said using 'Secure CRT' with same settings parameters. It worked for me.

Thanks for sharing your experience and confirming that my suggestion can work. IOS interprets the very low speed signal as a break. So when the boot process completes and the brief period begins when it would accept a break it believes that it has received one and can initiate the recovery process. If the next thing that it receives is y or yes then the recovery process begins. So it is important that after you change the speed in your emulator the very first thing that you do is to type y or yes.

Rick, I have been trying your method on my 891 router but it is not working. Any advise??

Sorry that you are having this difficulty. What terminal emulator software are you using? With the normal settings of the emulator and connected to the console, if you power cycle the router do you see the boot process output?

I am using SecureCRT. I set the Baud rate to 300, boot it up (nothing happens) then wait for about 5 minutes and change the baud rate to 9600. I then type Yes and enter but it takes me back to the username prompt.

Yes i do see the boot process output when i power cycle the router.

There is a very short interval after booting completes that will accept Ctrl+Brk. I got succeed by using Secure CRT by doing the same procedures.

Thanks, Cleetusant, i will keep trying
