pcmcia write-protect on 1603 router

i would like to know how to disable the write-protect on the pcmcia card in 1603 router.

When I tried to copy new IOS to flash fron TFTP it says "PCMCIA card is write protected, cannot erase".

But I was able to copy old IOS from flash to TFTP. The flash size is only 4mb so I have to erase and load new IOS.

I suppose your router is booting form flash (not a 1600-R series).

You have to boot it from ROM first.

See http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/130/sw_upgrade_proc_flash.shtml#sampleoutput
