Hello all,

Output from Ping command on WS-X5302 module running IOS 12.1(20):

Sending 200, 1472-byte ICMP Echos to 10.8.100.100, timeout is 2 seconds:

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!QQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQ

Success rate is 87 percent (174/200), round-trip min/avg/max = 60/63/76 ms

My understanding is that Q means the ICMP ping was not transmitted.

Any ideas on what would cause this?

Q is a source quench , this means the host you are pinging is too busy to reply so the ping is ignored .

Q = source quench received.

It means that the destination you are pinging is too busy right now to respond to your ICMP echoes. It is an indication to your source to slow down and don't bother the destination much at this time.
