Ping issue

Configuring a 2611 for a test environment. Pretty basic - 2 interfaces. E0/0 connects to network, E1/0 connects to test network. E0/0 10.1.1.10 255.0.0.0

E1/0 192.168.100.1 255.255.255.0

Have IP routing turned on with a default route pointing to our pix 10.1.1.1.

I can ping other switches on the real network from the 2611 and into the 192 network.

I can ping from the network switches to the router and beyond. I can not ping past the 10.1.1.100 interface from the 192 network.

Any thoughts?

I assume the device beyond the router is PIX. Your PIX mayn't have a route to get to the 192.168.100.0/24 network.

Things you need to make sure:

1. Devices on the 192.168.100.0/24 NET has to be configured with a gateway address of 192.168.100.1

2. All devices beyond the router have a route back to the 192.168.100.0 or their default gateway should be pointing to 2611.

You may want to verify your subnet masks on all pf the attached devices.

If one of the 10.x.x.x masks are set to something like a 24 bit mask, you'll see the kind of behavior you describe.

This and / or the suggested route issues are the most common mistakes.
