I am very confused. I am configuring Policy Based Routing and am using the
"set ip next-hop ip_address"" command. Does the ip_address I specify have to be from an adjacent router (i.e., on the same LAN or WAN attached 1 hop away) or can it be from a router multiple hops away which is being learned from a dynamic routing protocol like EIGRP.
The 12.1 and 12.2 software docs I have been looking at states that the ip_address is defined as follows - "IP address of the next hop to which packets are output. The next hop must be an adjacent router."
However, I have been getting conflicting info. from some of my co-workers.
Thanks

It needs to be adjacent as far as I know.

According to http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/iosswrel/ps1835/products_configuration_guide_chapter09186a00800c75d2.html
the next-hop must be adjacent.
