Policy Routing question

If I have a Policy route set up that says: Route a.b.c.d to interface serial 1, all the packets match the criteria, however the serial 1 interface goes down. Will the router then kick the packets back to the routing table ? Or will they be dropped ? I have search all over CCO for this and can't find it. Any one ever experienced this ?

Thanks,

Chris

Chris,

I hope others will correct me if I am wrong, but if I am not mistaken, if the router finds no other way to route the packets, they will be dropped if the interface is down . This is, of course, assuming that you are using static routes. If you are using RIP or OSPF, then the route with the next best metric will be used.

Just curious, what routing protocol are you using?

il policy routing can not apply a rule because the next-hop is not available or in your case the interface is down, it will revert back to the routing table.

Thanks a million for your help.

Using RIPv2 now, but going to EIGRP soon.

Have an awesome day !

Chris
