port monitoring span on 3550 switch with sniffer

hello.

i want to configure with span on 3550 switch.

monitor session 1 source interface fa0/1

monitor session 1 destination interface fa0/3

but, interface fa 0/3 is down. packet does not flow.

how do i do ?

Mirrored port is always down. Once you enable spanning, you will see the destination port status as

interface fastethernet0/3

line up, protocol down (mirroring)

Once you have this status, it means that the spanning is working.. if not check the connectivity from the syslog to the switchport.. remove spanning and see if the port comes up/up

i connected voip recoding server on destination port.

recoding server has ethreal(sniffer).

recoding server does not recode sound,because

destination port is down.

Hi,

You can have ingress traffic enabled on your destination port and the traffic goes normally to that port when you enable ingress feature.

Check the IOS you are running and see if that feature is supported on that.
