Hello all,
I've got a 2970G-24TS gigabit switch. We recently ran into a strange problem with one of our Sun servers with an Antares gigabit card (using copper). The card seemed to just suddenly stop working. We couldn't ping anywhere (only localhost), yet the switch saw the interface as up. We ifconfig'd it down and back up with no success. Finally I ended up shutting down the interface on the switch and bringing it backup. That worked. There were no errors in dmesg on the Sun and nothing strange on the Catalyst. Any ideas what could have happened, or any similar experiences.

Hello Paul,
there are a couple of compatibility issues between Cisco Catalyst switches and various vendor-specific NICs. You might find your Sun Gigabit Card listed in this document:

Ive seen this issue before (not same nic as you though). I hard-coded the interface to 100full or the respected speed you need and turn on flowcontrol.
