Does anyone have experience of developing test environments for simulating a Worm-based Denial of Service scenario on a routing infrastructure? We are currently looking to simulate an environment where a router is experiencing CPU overload and memory depletion similar to conditions that would exist under an infestation similar to the Slammer or Welchia worm. This is to help develop rate-limiting and QoS methodologies for deployment across a large Cisco WAN infrastructure. Are there any easy methods (tools/utilities)to achieve this? Any help/ideas on this would be greatly appreciated. . .

There is SW out there that can generate traffic to a specific ip address. I think even Sniffer pro had something like this

Solarwinds Net tools have a software piece called Wan Killer. This can generate traffic to a particular tcp or udp port, and you can also specify the size of the port. You can simulate utilization thresholds on the bandwidth of a link.
May be this might help!
