Reset Password for Cisco Switch 3500 XL and 4000

Hi,

We've the Cisco Switch Series for 3500 XL and 4000 that we are trying to re-set the passwords for. I was able to find alot of information on how to reset the passwords, but before I do that, we want to be very certain that the process for reseting the password [by powering down the switch and upon powering on to hold the 'mode' button on the switch that this does NOT WIPE OUT ANY CONFIGURATION?? Part of the reason is that the Cisco 3500 XL is configure for Fiber connectins so we are afriad if something were to happen to the configuratons file, this would cause connectivity issues.

Any help would be appreciated.

As long as you follow the Password Recovery Procedures you will not loose your configuration. All you are really doing is changing the Configuration register which will enable you to change your password.
