Can anyone advise me of which one is the best to use, I generally use eigrp, do many people use rip, igrp etc, Is there any big differences between them ?

Which is best for you, will depend on the type of network you are running.

Major differences to watch out for are

1. Classful or Classless, more especially if you are using VLSM. EIGRP, OSPF, RIPv2 are classless while RIP, IGRP are classful. Classful protocol should not be used where you have VLSM.

2. Convergence Time. EIGRP, OSPF have faster convergence than RIP

3. Updates (Triggered or Periodic). RIP uses periodic updates which wastes bandwidth.

4. CPU and Memory. Link state protocols often require more memory and CPU than their distance vector.
