I have (3) 2980G-A switches and (1) 3750 gigabit switch. Each 2980G-A has a pair of copper GBIC's. What is the best way to connect all of the GBIC's to the 3750? The IOS on the 2980G-A is 6.x. Will the current IOS work with my older 2980G-A?

3750 can take a small form factor SFP copper gbic. The 2980 can take a WS-G5484 fiber gbic (SC type). You would need a fiber optic cable with different ends. SC type on 2980G end and LC type on the 3750 end. THe IOS Should not be a problem, but its usually better to upgrade to the latest IOS to avoid any issues.

Thanks. I'm trying to learn more about configuration options for the gigabyte connectivity. Would I use etherchannel for each pair of gbic's on the 2980G-A? Which switch do you configure the etherchannel (or both)? My goal is to configure maximum gigabit connectivity between the 3750 and each of the 2980G-A's.
