Some configurations will depend on your software level.
In a nutshell, with newer software you no longer need to do the triggered ARP response.
On the port config screen, set a MAC and IP address for each SB port to test.
Verify that the "Layer 3" test box is checked.
For the "Destination MAC," put in the MAC address of the router's interface that the SB port is connecting to.
The source MAC is the MAC of the SB interface.
The Destination IP is the receiving Smartbits port.
The packet contents can be any legal size, and the contents can be any of the selections (all ones, all zeros, random, fabricated, etc).
I'm not close to my SmartBits right now, but the above steps should get you started. I think there are some "Getting Started" guides on their website.
