Hello,
I am setting a modest sized small business LAN with a Cisco SG-300-20 L3 switch connected to an ISP modem-WiFi router (100 Mbps service). I am also installing Cat6 cabling. My "dilemma" is as follows:
I want to be sure the Cat6 cable meets the 350Mhz criterion. I am installing Belden 2424 Cat6 cable, but must convince myself it is not an imitation or fake.
I understand there are cable certifiers -- hardware gadgets that cost in the high hundreds and some over a $1,000 for industrial installations. I am NOT looking for CABLE TESTERS that do only checking of the pinouts for correctness. I already have this device to check the termination of the 4 pairs at both ends.
I am looking for CABLE CERTIFIERS -- but on a software/freeware approach, as aginst those expensive over-a-thousand-bucks hardware.
Are there software (preferably trusted freeware) that can be run on a Windows PC/laptop connected to a LAN L2/L3 switch that, after a series of loopback tests, can at least provide some data/statistics on the performance and in some sense, allow me to gauge the quality of the Cat6 wiring?
Would be grateful for any tips, advice or guidance.
Many thanks.
