spanning tree 3548

All the ports in my 3548 are configured to vlan 7. With spantree portfast enabled.

1. User complained that he is unable to get the ip address dynamically.

2. checked the spanning tree for that interface it show spanning tree down.

3. Changed the vlan to vlan 1. Assigned static ip as vlan 1 is not in dhcp scope.

4. Spanning tree changed to forwarding.

5. What could be the problem is it the lack of dhcp address in the server or something else.

shashank

Do you mean spantree blocking?

This is not normal on a port where there is only a PC attached.

Please check the following:

Is the link up on both sides? If the PC is switched off, spantree will not be in the forwarding state.

Is vlan 7 configured in the vtp database?

Can you reach (ping) the ip adress of the DHCP server after you manually assign an IP adress? If this is true, you might need to check the DHCP-server.

Thanks for the reply

The problem was with dhcp server. All the ip were used up.
