Hi.
I am curious if it is possible to set a certain ip-address to a port on a switch. So that every time a end device connects to the port and gets the static ip-address that is assigned to that port.
A scenario that you want to change a printer and don't have to assign the static ip-address to the printer before installing it to the workstation. It would work kind of a "plug and play" function with that port without any problems with the DHCP protocols.
From what i have found personally it could be possible but would leave a security problem so that anyone can tap into the network through that port without any problem.

Hi,
if you want to allow only one device on that port then you can use portsecurity (and specify allowed static MAC address).
Also you can specify DHCP pool which assign specific IP address according to MAC address.
One problem can happen if someone know MAC address of printer and change MAC address of network card in PC to MAC address of printer. Then will be able to connect to switch on that port.
EDIT: sorry, I misunderstand you. Above solution will not solve your problem (And I am not able to delete post)
