Strange GBIC problem

I have a couple of Cisco WS-G5483 1000Base-T GBICs that do the following when inserted into a switch:

- don't generate the console message indicating that a GBIC has been inserted

- in the output of a SHOW INTERFACE STATUS, the GBIC is listed as a 1000Base-LX GBIC

-you can't draw link on this GBIC

Anyone else seen this, and do you know of a cure?

Mike

Hi Mike,

Are you plugging these into a 3500XL or 2900XL switch by any chance ?

If so, these switches dont support the 5483 only the 5482 (think thats the number) its still a 1000Base GBIC but an older version.

Cheers

Shaun

Sean,

The testing was done with a 3508XL, but I've got WS-5483 1000base-T GBICs in service in 3508XL switches all over campus. They're not having this problem. I was actually testing about 12 WS-5483 GBICs on this 3508XL only 2 are showing the problem. The rest happily come up as 1000base-T.
