I had somene put a patch cable from one port to another port on a little DLINK switch and it shut down our Cisco 3550 Switches.I pulled out the cable on the the amber light and it started to work again. Was that a short or somethinkg from the cable on the DLINK?

When they put the patch cable between two ports of the DKINK they created a loop in the layer 2 network. The 3550 stopped working in reaction to the loop and started working again when the loop was broken.
