TAC Are You Listening (IS-IS Question)

I hate to open a case just to ask this question. It would appear that there is no IS-IS support on 1600 or 1700 series routers. Is that in the future or just something that will not be supported?

I am currently running 12.1(9) IP Plus. I went to the feature navigator and selected IS-IS. The next step would be to select the platform. The list for this feature starts at 2500 and goes up. Also, even with IP Plus running, the command 'router isis' can be entered - with no effect on the actual config. Finally, none of the isis commands at the interface level are valid. So it definatley looks as if this is not yet supported for lower end routers like the 1700 series. I found that odd, since even BGP 4 is included with IP Plus.

I read your problem online and have not a anserw but simular problems have you found any resolution ?

Im testing isis on a network using cisco 7600, 7500, 4500 and 2500.

so far on the 4500 and 7500 with version 12.0.7 after inputting router isis ther is no results, like yours. what was the fix

To William: In order for isis to function, at a minimum you need to configure a NET (network entity title) under the router isis process, then configure the interface(s) that'll participate in iso zones. Refer to isis documentation.

thanx for your concern... and i certianly agree with you but the step before the net config is activate isis useing the router isis command .

that command doesnt launch me into router config mode to even do the net statement. any ideas ?

just did a software feature search all versons for

ISIS. the 16/1700's don't show up. The lowest level

router that appears to support isis is a 2500...

Well, the TAC never responded and I never opened a case. As you can see from this thread, though, both Vince and I concluded from the Feature Navigator that IS-IS support currently stops at the 2500. I suspect that eventually IS-IS will show up in an IP Plus feature pack for the lower end routers someday (if BGP did, why not IS-IS?). If it is imperative that you run IS-IS, you may try opening a case with TAC. They may have a trick up their sleeve.

IS-IS requires the Enterprise (-j-) IOS image and there is none currently available for 1600's or 1700's.

Originally,the "IP" version for these platforms did notinclude OSPF or BGP, these protocols were later added to the "IP Plus" version.

I am checking internally about any plans for also supporting IS-IS in the "IP Plus" version and will let you know what I find out.
