Testing 2 x 1720 routers back to back.

Hi people,

Bit of background, we have a couple of 1720 routers going in to service a new frame network. Id like to see if I can test the 2 routers prior to them going out into the field. I was hoping to test them back to back using the x.21 serial connections. I have made a cross over connector, and was hoping someone could point me in the right direction as to what settings I should use (encapsulation etc etc). Can this be done as I cant find any info on x.21 to x.21 testing on the net! I have tried a few things but no sucess. Any help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

Andrew

OK Andrew.

Assuming you have correct cable setup (DTE to DCE). The interface with the DCE connection will require the clockrate setting. eg.

interface Serial0

ip address 10.1.1.1 255.255.255.252

clockrate 128000

The other end will be DTE

interface Serial0

ip address 10.1.1.2 255.255.255.252

This should allow you to test back to back
