Transferring new firmware over ftp -incorrect file size

Hello,

I want to transfer new image onto the CISCO2911/K9.

I'm using freeftpd the authentication with ftp server works then file is being transferred but the file size is not correct.

It should be 107,904KB and not 463320 bytes.

I've tried removing the file and transferring again but it it the same.

I've also tried to re-download the file again but size on the ftp server is correct, it becomes not corrected after it is being transferred.

Thanks

CME-01#copy ftp: flash0:
Address or name of remote host []? 10.20.21.5
Source filename []? c2900-universalk9-mz.SPA.157-3.M8.bin
Destination filename [c2900-universalk9-mz.SPA.157-3.M8.bin]?
Accessing ftp://10.20.21.5/c2900-universalk9-mz.SPA.157-3.M8.bin...
Loading c2900-universalk9-mz.SPA.157-3.M8.bin !!
[OK - 463320/4096 bytes]

463320 bytes copied in 109.948 secs (4214 bytes/sec)

The issue was with the firepower and transferred file going through inspection

It was excluded from the inspection which resolve the problem

System image file is "flash:c2900-universalk9-mz.SPA.152-4.M4.bin"

Before transferring I have:

256487424 bytes total (132845568 bytes free)

I know tried transferring again the file and this time I get:

copy ftp: flash0:
Address or name of remote host [10.20.21.5]?
Source filename [c2900-universalk9-mz.SPA.157-3.M8.bin]?
Destination filename [c2900-universalk9-mz.SPA.157-3.M8.bin]?
Accessing ftp://10.20.21.5/c2900-universalk9-mz.SPA.157-3.M8.bin...
Loading c2900-universalk9-mz.SPA.157-3.M8.bin !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
%Error reading ftp://10.20.21.5/c2900-universalk9-mz.SPA.157-3.M8.bin (Connection timed out)

This was done 5 minutes after the initial file transfer (when this smaller file was transferred)

Thanks

Looks like some tramitt error - Suggest to use TFTP simple application.

I've tried with tftpd but it also fails as below

copy tftp: flash0:
Address or name of remote host []? 10.20.21.5
Source filename []? c2900-universalk9-mz.SPA.157-3.M8.bin
Destination filename [c2900-universalk9-mz.SPA.157-3.M8.bin]?
Accessing tftp://10.20.21.5/c2900-universalk9-mz.SPA.157-3.M8.bin...
Loading c2900-universalk9-mz.SPA.157-3.M8.bin from 10.20.21.5 (via GigabitEthernet0/0.970): !... [timed out]

%Error reading tftp://10.20.21.5/c2900-universalk9-mz.SPA.157-3.M8.bin (Connection timed out)

I wanted to use ftp to have higher transfer rate.

Thanks

Look at this information, you have some network intruption some where.

to be clear - is this all in same place or remote place, if remote Palce, suggest to use FTP only rather TFTP.

what is the Router IP address ?

server is at the DC and site is in the remote location

investigating currently if firepower is not causing the issues with file transfers

Sure check is there any policy inspection. - why not sure any device in the same site (RDP to that PC) and upload file easy method.

All of the computers have ftp/tftp/sftp ports closed by MS firewall for security reasons.

RDP is also blocked.

Thanks

Understand good security practice, then you need to find the cause to fix the issue of file transfer.

                (>....Connection timed out)

  - Check your ftp server's logs when that happens.

ISR G2 have two USB ports.

Plug in a USB flash drive and copy the file across.

For the best result, go to the Cisco website and download the firmware.

I always download cisco firmware from the cisco website.

I need to transfer firmware to the remote device therefore usb is not the option this time.

It is also worth to remember that not all of the usb flash drives are accepted despite meeting all cisco requirements.

thanks

I have been using Toshiba- and PNY-branded USB thumb drive.  Currently playing around with 32 and 64 Gb flash size.
