Upgrading IOS Cat6509

Hello, I need to upgrade the IOS in my CAT6509.

I need to upgrade the IOS to the 7.6(1) version to install this card WS-X6548V-GE-TX but I need 128 DRAM. Can I Upgrade the DRAM from 64 to 128? If not what do you recomend me to solve my problem?

Yes, you can upgrade the DRAM to 128 MB.

Since your sup is a Sup1a and also the software version is 7.4 you might be interested in the following field notice from Cisco.

You might stand a chance to get a free upgrade, if your serial number falls in the specified range. If otherwise, contact your local reseller or Cisco partner for an upgrade of the RAM.

welcome to the club. You CAN NOT upgrade DRAM to 128MB unless you also remove MSFC and install MSFC2.

(Cisco states that MSFC is not field replacable.You can only install DRAM by removing MSFC. Reinstalling MSFC might damage supervisor card !!.

I am in the same position and trying to install newer version of CatoS to get around the vulnerability announced on 6th of June.If you check MSFC2 prices you will start finding a workaround like me.

I am even considering downgrading CatOS without loosing too much functionality to fit into 64MB DRAM
