using 4424 card in 4000 switch on catos

'Someone' ordered a 4424 card without realising the switch was a 4000 running catos, about 5.4. the switch wont recognise the card, my question is, if we upgrade the supervisor to a recent version of IOS, will it work, or is there a hardware incompatibility?

I've looked but can't find any information related to this.

Hi,

The minimum version of CatOS required to support WS-X4424-GB-RJ45 is 6.3(1), recommended 8.4(4)GLX.
