Virtual IP address routing vs. SLB

We have a Sw package that creates a virtual IP address (no MAC assigned) for load balancing. I can ping the virtual address on the local LAN but not from remote sites across the WAN. Want to create a static route on three remote WAN routers but wanted advice re Server Load Balancing. Is this a better solution vs the Sw created address ? Which would be better/easier to implement/maintain ? Thanks.

No matter how the virtual address is created, it has to be known by other networks to reach the servers. You will have to either use static routes or advertise it through a routing protocol. I don't think the mechanism you choose will affect the way you do load balancing.
