Vlan Multicast Congestion

Hey All,

In bit of a quandry. Here is what I have, A Windows 2003 machine connected to a 4006 on VLan 3. A 2650-48 in another bulding, connected to the 4006 via a gbic fiber. I have all but 10 ports of the 2650 on VLan 3. I have some imaging software that resides on the 2003 machine that will multicast an image to its clients.

I have a classroom that I want to push an image to, 20 machines. I have enabled igmp snooping on the 2650. When I start a multicast session, It floods the VLan with traffic.

Is there anything that I am missing. The flooding occurs even if I try to image one host. Is there something that I need to configure on the 4006? What sort of statistics should I look for to help figure this out.

Thanks in advanced

Matt

Hi,

I've spent a lot of time fixing this problem in the past. My aplication was Symantec Ghost.

I think you need to enable CGMP on your 4006 and to configure a proper PIM port on your router.
