What is the maximum number of pc's that can run at acceptable speeds on one vlan. I have around 600 devices on one vlan and can only do file tranfers at around 30 mb a minute. I have 6509's. All pc's are on 100 mb ports. The pc's that I am using to test do not have any erros on their ports.

Are the test PC's on the same switch or does the data traverse a trunk? If they go over 1 or more trunks perhaps you should look at the utilzation on the trunks as well as the CPU utilization on the switches.

The particular test devices are in the same 6509 on the same vlan. I have another 500 to 600 pc's on the same vlan on other switches that are trunked to this one. Trunk utlization looks fine but how do you measure utliztion on a whole vlan not just one port. My tarffic on the msfc for the vlan is 1/255.
