Vlans with server farm

I currently trying to create vlans on my networks (144-262 users/location ~ 8 locations). Cisco 3548XL and 3Com 3300 are my access switches with Cisco 6509 as my core switch. Is there any issue working 801.1q as my trunk for these two vendors.

Furthermore, I will like all user to access my server farm (Individual vlan) and I believe it is violation of the thumb rule of 80/20. Is there any other design solutions?

You mean the 20/80 rule. That's right they changed it while you weren't looking. If you have a 6509 as a core switch use it for your Core switch block. Collapse your access layer switches and servers right to it. But, don't forget your fault tolerance.

For trunking 802.1q will work fine, ISL trunking is a cisco protocol and can't work with 3Com equipment. Lookup some more on switched network design. http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/cc/so/neso/lnso/cpso/gcnd_wp.htm

Thanks for your help. I will try them out.
