I need to build an inexpensive VPN and I can't find anyone who's done it. No one can tell me what exact pieces are needed to complete this configuration. The theory is simple enough yet I can't seem to get any answers. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Is there a tech or sales rep who can help me? Or anyone who's done this?
This is what my network looks like:
private network----ethernet----Cisco 1600---ISDN----ISP internet provider------Internet -----vpn client
Can the 1600 be configured for VPN?
What is needed at the client end? (vpn software ?)
Please email me at:
Thanks and Regards,
Ed

Josh,
I have a similar situation. I have a customer with 2 sites, 20 users at one and 3 at the other with 12 home users. They have DSL at one site and a direct ethernet connection to a router in their broadband provider's location in the same building. They plan to expand 100-150% per year for several years. It's a software company and security is paramount to them as they were hacked into recently. I'm just getting started with Cisco having the CCNA less than a month and preparing for CCDA exam so I'm unsure of myself. Here is what I am proposing to them:
1720 router at each location with IOS firewall, VPN, etc.
VPN Client Software licenses for home users
My concern is they are using mainly Solaris OS, but have some Windows and Linux as well. What do I need to be especially aware of when configuring these routers? They want everyone to be able to access anyone else's PC's which are acting as mini file servers, but obviously want to keep everyone else out. What kind of access lists should I use to accomplish this. Any other advice you can provide would be greatly appreciated. I've had other people verify that it's a good solution, but I want to make sure. I'd hate to screw up my first time out. If you don't mind, respond to tgreaner@netscape.net so I can access it from home or work. Thanks a lot.
