The main difference is that WS-X6548-GE-TX is a fabric enabled card while WS-X6148-GE-TX is not. The WS-X6148-GE-TX supports the "classic" 32 Gbps backplane. The higher-performance WS-X6548-GE-TX supports the 256 Gbps (CEF256) switch fabric module (SFM/SFM-2) for premier wiring closet configurations
