Dear Sir,

We want to upgrade WS-X6K-S2-MSFC2 ( hybrid mode ) MSFC2 IOS to 12.1.26E7. I checked 12.1E release note, it mention : "For large networks or complex configurations, we recommend upgrading the memory on the MSFC2 before you load Release 12.1(8a)E or later". Can anyone tell me in which condition we must upgrade the default MSFC2 memory ( 128MB ) to recommend memory ( 256MB or 512MB )?

Best Regards,

Jackson Ku

May be because no one uses RIP in todays world :), Just kidding.

I guess if your RIP table has many routes then this restriction applies to it as well. It depends how big is your routing table.

HTH, Please rate if it does.

Hi Jack,

This is in regards with running the complex routing protocols like IS-IS, OSPF and BGP. Specially in case of BGP where you need to download the full routing tables. If you have a larger network and you are running OSPF or IS-IS, then you might want to have more memory.

HTH, Please rate if it does.

Hi Amit,

I checked releast note again, it mention that which memory size can support how many route in different routing protocol. But no guideline about RIP. Does it mean that no restriction if use RIP?
