I am configuring a C2950 Switch, ac ouple of things I want to ask as below
When I issue sh boot command on an existing active switch I get
C2950SW1#sh boot
BOOT path-list: flash:c2950-i6q4l2-mz.121-11.EA1a.bin
Config file: flash:config.text
Private Config file: flash:private-config.text
Enable Break: no
Manual Boot: no
HELPER path-list:
NVRAM/Config file
buffer size: 32768
C2950SW1#boot
But When I issue the same command on the newly configured switch I get
C2950gSw11#sh boot
BOOT path-list:
Config file: flash:config.text
Enable Break: no
Manual Boot: no
HELPER path-list:
NVRAM/Config file
buffer size: 32768
C2950gSw11#
Can someone help me to explain what is this and how can i change it, secondly to upgrade IOS on the new Switch do I need to upgrade using image.tar file or do I have to use image.bin
Please help me on this I am a learner in Cisco products.

This might help:

I prefer using image.tar file for upgrade - it includes files necessary for CMS (web based management tool).

Will there be any problem if I keep Boot settings as they are. The switch is rebooting from its default image and with the new config. ????

I don't see any problem.
These values are the default ones and work fine.
To be honest: playing with these values can bring you to a trouble:
I remember one failed CMS upgrade in the past - it copied a new image file to the switch flash but didn't change the BOOT variable. And the switch was not able to boot. So I had to change the BOOT variable manually.
But if you leave the BOOT variable empty the switch will boot with the first image file it finds on the flash (which is correct - the flash is not big enough for two image files anyway).
