Cisco 1812 Terminal Server Configuration

Hi,

For my home LAB, as i am studying for CCNP, I looking to use this old ISDN 1812 to serve as a terminal server. I just cannot get it to work. So before I bother you with other questions, could it be done with an  Cisco1812? The tutorial I'm using is:

https://networklessons.com/cisco/ccie-routing-switching/cisco-terminal-server-configuration-example

They are using an Cisco 2511-RJ, but without explaining why.. I just can't find if my Cisco 1812 is suitable for this purpose.

The only difference I see thus far is that the tutorial lists TTY lines and my 1812 VTY lines.. Google tells me that they are almost the same. Is the difference why this is not working?

Can someone help me with this?

Thanks in advance!

Greeting

Marnix

Hi there,

The 2511 router has a fixed ASNC interface which you can connect a CAB-OCTAL-ASYNC cable to:

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/dial-access/asynchronous-connections/14958-24.html

There are also ASYNC Network Modules available for ISE routers:

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/routers/3600-series-multiservice-platforms/7258-hw-async.html

However, the 1812 ISR has neither of the these options available and is unfortunately not suitable to use a terminal server.

Cheers,

Seb.
