Hello Guys

Please, could you give a help. I have some problems when i go sub-interface FastEthernet0.0 to set up Router Inter-VLAN Routing

I dont find this option  : encapsulation dot1q vlan-id native inside sub-interface. My router is Cisco 877 .

Do you know why?

The issue is that 0.0 is not a sub interface, it refers to interface 0. If you were to change it to 0.1 it would be classed as a sub interface and your encapsulation commands would appear. As long has the number after the dot has some sort of numeric value, you should be fine.

I can not change to this sub-interface as you told me

Sorry yes chrihussey is right. Some the 800 series have switch ports combined with router ports. If this is the case the there may only be one port that can have sub interfaces. In the below 871, only Fa4 is a layer 3 port. You can test with the below commands;

Router#sh int fa 0 switchport
Name: Fa0
Switchport: Enabled
Administrative Mode: static access
Operational Mode: static access
Administrative Trunking Encapsulation: dot1q
Operational Trunking Encapsulation: native
Negotiation of Trunking: Disabled
Access Mode VLAN: 1 (default)
Trunking Native Mode VLAN: 1 (default)
Trunking VLANs Enabled: ALL
Trunking VLANs Active: 1
Priority for untagged frames: 0
Override vlan tag priority: FALSE
Voice VLAN: none
Appliance trust: none

Crabmeat#sh int fa 4 switchport
% Fa4 is not a switchable port
Router#

Thanks very much for messages. Now I have tried to create sub-interface from FaEth0 to Faeth4 . if one interface is alow to do it. I could not . I have type the command you have told me.

Router#sh interfaces fastEthernet 0 swi
Router#sh interfaces fastEthernet 0 switchpor

Please check the earlier post:

Instead of creating a sub-interface, use the "switchport mode trunk" command under the interface and then create the logical VLAN interface with the IP address.

There may be limitations on the number of VLAN interfaces you can create. It may only be 4 and that is with the Advanced IP Services image. So if you aren't running that you may be limited to a single VLAN. Below is the data sheet link for this router:

Sorry for the delayed response I have been super busy at work. Can you post you running-config?

I looked at an 871 so the same probably applies. Instead of creating a sub-interface, use the "switchport mode trunk" command under the interface and then create the logical VLAN interface with the IP address.

Hope this helps
