Hi Team,
Our customer has a virtualized Cisco Prime Infra 3.4, and they ask us how they can install the VMWare tools.
I have looked for information, but I have only found a reference for the version of CPI 3.1.
##############################
You can install the VMware tools from PI CLI interface with following commands run as root user:
# rm /opt/.vmtoolsd
# /opt/VMTools/vmtoolsInstall.sh
##############################
How can we install the VMWare Tools?
Thank & Best Regards,
JuanMi

Hello,
looks like the 'root' and 'root_enable' admin commands have been removed in 3.4.
3.4 does have the 'shell' command, not sure if that is a replacement. Are the options you have found available in 'shell' ?

Hi Georg,
I don't have access to the CPI, I'll have to review it with our customer.
But, can you confirm me if the VMWare tools can be installed on a CPI 3.4? Can they only be installed from the CLI? Can't install from ESXi?
Thanks & Best Regards,
JuanMi

Hello,
I don't know if it can be installed from the CLI or ESXi to be honest. You will need to try if you can install from the 'shell'. I don't have access to a 3.4 installation myself, so I don't know what shell commands are available...

Hi Georg,
I just reviewed it with our customer and I see that from the Shell we have access to the VMTools folder as shown below:
ade # cd / opt / VMTools /
ade # ls
lis-rpms-4.1.3.tar.gz vmtoolsInstall.sh vmtools_customize.sh
ade #
One question, the installation of the VMTools affects the performance of the CPI, requires a reboot of the CPI, .....?
Thanks & Best Regards,
JuanMi

- In general you must consider the Prime-VM as being an OEM-appliance, hence fundamental configuration changes are in essence not supported , but you can also check this thread :

Hello,
whether or not you have to reboot, I really don't know. Do the tools work after installation ?
Impact on CPI should be minimal, if any at all, provided of course, the system has enough (memory) resources. Keep monitoring for any performance impact.
Glad that the shell worked. There had to be a way/replacement...
