IBM t41 with intergrated wireless 350 card getting apipa address. Able to ping the access point and the dhcp server everytime without a problem, but always apipa address. The problem is machine specific because when the harddrive is introduced in another t41 system it authenticates and gets an ip address from the dhcp server without a problem.
I replaced the cisco card with a new card and am getting the exact same response. Strong signal but getting APIPA. Reregistered the computer account in the domain and still same issue. Any Ideas?

Hello,
strange indeed, since the same hard disk works well in another ThinkPad.
This might not help much, but you could try and uprade your TP with the latest wireless driver...

Did that several times. My results have lead me to that being a motherboard issue. Is that possible?

I would tend to believe it would be the antenna cable, since they are small, and the connectors tend to also be small and delicate.
It's possible that the center pin on the connector has been bent out of position ... take a look.
If you get the laptop close to the AP, it may get enough signal to make the (wireless) connection.
Give it a shot and let us know. Whether or not the cable is user replacable or if you nee a service call ... I don't know.
Good Luck

Thanks for your suggestion, and I will look at that possibilty. The fact the connection is autheticated and displays the ip address for the access point but fails to get an ip address from the dhcp server stumps me.

The issue is solved. The motherboard connectors are apparently damaged somehow. I reseated the card on the motherboard and got a tcp/ip address for a minute and then back to getting APIPA. Thanks all for your imput
