Intermittent port problem

Hi there,

I have two 6509 switches running Hybrid OS. Recently I face an intermittent port problem which is hard to troubleshoot.

A few of the ports (all in the same port module and VLAN) lose the Internet connection on and off. When I do a ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew in the command promp of the PCs connected to the affected ports, an error message that says "An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection : Unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed out." came out in the command prompt.

The ports do not behave like this all the time. This makes troubleshooting even more difficult. When I do a "show port status" on the CLI of the switch, it says that the ports are "Connected", which means that layer 1 is working fine. Does this mean that the affected ports are damaged? Is there any way to confirm on this?

Please advice.

Thank you very much :)

Set your diagnostics to run as complete and do a reset on the module itself and let it see if anything is found in the POST . Also make sure portfast is turned on for those ports . If the problem is happening to all the ports at the same time it could very well be a hardware problem with one of the asics on that card . When you do a "show logging buffer" does it tell your anything .
