I don't think you will ever find such a paper. The comparison between PIM and DVMRP is anologous to the one between BGP and EGP. There is no doubt in my mind that PIM is the way to go. It is a lot more feature rich and ubiquitous, which is not the case with DVMRP. The only time you will ever see networks using DVMRP is probably to support legacy connection to the M-bone.
