Network Registrar Issues

Good Morning,

We are running CNR Windows Build 6.3.1.1.0807111143, running on a virtual Windows Server 2003 R2 box, on VMWare ESXi 5.1.

We're seeing some strange error messages in the DNS Logs and Windows Event Logs.  When we see these, our DNS stops accepting incoming requests and we have to restart the DNS Server in Network Registrar.

The below message appears in the DNS Logs.

  • name/dns/1 Warning System AX_E2BIG 21031 Concurrent DNS packets has exceeded the max-dns-packets configurable limit of 10001. Dropping incoming packet.

Here are the Windows Event Log messages that come in about the same time as the above.

  • The description for Event ID ( 21031 ) in Source ( Network Registrar Local Server Agent ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: name/dns/1, AX_E2BIG, Concurrent DNS packets has exceeded the max-dns-packets configurable limit of 10001. Dropping incoming packet.

We increased the max-dns-packets limit from 2000 to 10000, and we still get the same message in the DNS and Windows Event Logs.

We have separated DNS traffic and DHCP traffic to separate NICs on the server.

Also see a lot of "ping subsystem" error messages in the system event logs.

  • Server name/dhcp/1: 0 A recvfrom() in the ping subsystem returned error '0x80010028' (AX_EMSGSIZE)

In the short term, any thoughts on how to resolve these errors?  Long term we are going to upgrade the system, but need a short term solution to keep the system running until we do upgrade it.
